An Interview with Debra Sullivan about losing her son and the devastation that follows
Last summer, 18-year-old Aaron Sullivan was gunned down by another teenager Tristan Appleberry. Contrary to police assumptions and early media reports of the murder, the event was not gang-related. Sullivan’s shooter Appleberry, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to the recommended 20 years. Although the legal process may have ended, the emotional turmoil and sense of deep loss for Sullivan’s friends and family continues. On today’s One World Report, our own Sable Verity has this extended interview with Dr. Debra Sullivan, Aaron’s mother. She shares what she has learned from her son’s death, how she dealt with the media’s misinformation, and how she continues to process her grief.

Thank You, Debra. I am believing that your sharing of this tragic experience will help us, society, to wake up to the fact that we MUST begin to change the systems. My heart hurts, because your heart hurts.
