Ask the Candidates- Seattle City Council

Hello SV Readers!

We are excited to announce our 1st ever online candidates forum for those running for City Council in Seattle! If you live OR work in Seattle or have a vested interest in the health and success of the city, we want to hear from you ASAP!

(Don’t worry, we’re planning a Mayoral forum and a KC Exec. forum too)

This is your chance to ask a question and (hopefully) get it answered.

This is how it works; with your help we’ll put together a list of dynamic questions for the candidates and will post their answers here on the SV.

We will also use this info to determine who the SV will give the nod to once election day is closer.  It’s too early to endorse- someone could get arrested for a drunken brawl with their spouse, or driving under the influence- who knows.

We don’t want to ask the same, boring questions that all the other forums are asking- sure, we plan to cover the significant points, but we also want to help you ask your candidates real, down to earth questions, so don’t be shy.  Of course, SV has the right to refuse to include your question if we don’t feel it serves any purpose, and candidates have the right to not answer questions if they don’t want to…which will be noted, of course.

So, ask away!  What’s your question?

How do you feel about the new plan Obama is trying to push for people that are on unemployment to be able to attend community college or pursue other education or training and keep their unemployement benefits? Will you require them to continue to look for work as is now or will you permit them to successfully focus to obtain their educational goal?

What is your response to the actions of Steve Sundquist and the Arbor Heights Elementary PTSA, as reported by Sable Verity and revealed on KUOW interviews by the AH PTSA Co-President? As a City Council member, would you have encouraged the SPD Superintendent to take action to ensure ethical and professional conduct on the part of our School Board and PTSA members? What action specifically?

What significant thing have you done that improves the lives of poor children, children who are traditionally failed by Seattle Public Schools. How do you see your position on the City Council related to elevating education outcomes for these same failed children?

Will you support a $220 jail built in Seattle? Will you support any new jail project?

Are you going to be at Dawn Mason’s Fish Fry? lol

How do you spend your free time? With whom do you most frequently associate? What sort of music are you listening to, and by what means (i-pod, cd player 8-track)? Do you read? What newspapers do you get your information from? What other sources to you look to for information? What books have influenced your life the most? Who is your favorite author currently? What do you feel passionately about?

What about that crazy 200 million dollar jail, how soon will you scrap that hare-brained idea? What about investing in kids, which you politicians refer to cloyingly as “our future”, and then go and build them a nice big shiny jailhouse? Are you that sort of creep? Are you planning to make sure that our kids have so few options that they languish on the streets and get into trouble so that they can fill up your stinking jail? Are you going to neglect our kids and deprive them of an adequate education? Are you planning to make sure they have little or nothing to do between 2pm and 6pm? Are you hell bent on cutting music and art programs in the schools? Are you trying to make sure that we spend less money on kids than Alabama and Mississippi do? Do you have a favorite millionaire in whose pocket you dwell? Would you support a mayor who did? Is south lake union your preferred neighborhood? Are you keen on ridding our town of poor and homeless people? Do you believe in the 10 year plan to end homelessness?
What does being poor mean to you? Have you ever been poor? If so, please tell us the circumstances.
How do you like gentrification? Why do you think that happens?
Do you believe that racism exists, even though we have a Black President?
Do you think racial profiling still exists in Seattle? Do the police need better oversight?
Do you believe that bed bugs are the coming plague and will wreck economic havoc on all residents of Seattle regardless of wealth, neighborhood or type of housing they have?
What is your hidden agenda? Don’t make us guess, cause eventually we will guess, and we will be right. Are you going to go to Dawn Mason’s fish fry?
