Open letter of support for the Angry Black Woman and other sistas that blog; racism v sexism

 

 

There has been a dust-up (severe understatement) between White feminists and blogs like ABW and Black Amazon and others.  The issue at hand; racism vs. sexism.

It has taken every ouce of self restraint to not get in it.  People have crossed over some serious lines.  Let me be more clear; White women have crossed over some serious lines.  What I have seen and read has really pissed me off as a Black woman.  Read more »

“Tuskegee-like” experiments on Aborignial children?

A representative of Australia’s Stolen Generations’ Alliance of Aborigines has told a Senate committee that some Aboriginal children were used for medical experimentation.  The projects included testing a leprosy medicine on children who had been taken from their parents to be brought up in the white community.
The accusations that Aboriginal children were used in medical experiments is not far fetched.  For forty years between 1932 and 1972, the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) conducted an experiment on 399 black men in the late stages of syphilis.  “As I see it,” one of the doctors involved explained, “we have no further interest in these patients until they die.” Read more »

Blacks on Medicaid Carry Heavier Cancer Burden Than Whites Do

Newswise — African-American patients receiving Medicaid benefits have markedly higher rates of breast, prostate, colorectal and lung cancer than whites on Medicaid according to a recent study.

Moreover, African-Americans who are dually eligible for and enrolled in both Medicaid and Medicare for 12 or more months before a cancer diagnosis show higher cancer rates than their white counterparts, according to data on patients ages 65 and older, tracked by a Michigan tumor registry between 1997 and 2000.
