The Sable Verity

You can disagree, but I’ll still be right

Black folks in Clinton’s adopted NY backyard turning against her

Even as she continues her longshot presidential bid, Hillary Rodham Clinton faces a political rift in New York, where black leaders say her standing has dropped due to racially charged comments by her and her husband during the campaign.

African American elected officials and clerics based in New York City say Clinton will need to defuse resentment over the campaign’s racial overtones if she returns to New York as U.S. senator.

Hillary wears her racism like a badge of honor

Well!  Whew!  What a day!  I’m a West Coaster, so by the time I get up in the morning, there are always a bunch of yummy news tidbits just waiting for me on my RSS Reader.

Today’s treat?  Hillary is backed by hard working White folks.

Well, what can beat that?

So folks were pissed, and folks were tickled, and every blogger and news source reported on it.

That’s quite the claim to fame and glory, being supported by hard working White people.  What about the lazy White people?  Do they support her too?  What about the rich White people, and poor White people, and WHite people collecting unemployment, or White people on public assistance?

What about White people that eat granola?  Do they support Hill?

What about White men that beat their wives?

What about White women who cheat on their husbands?  Does she have their vote too?

I’m just askin’….

While it’s always interesting when she takes the opportunity to remind people that Barack is Black (you didn’t notice?!) she also reminded us of something else.

Black people don’t support her.  I know that people like th make the arguement that Black people vote for Barack because he’s Black…did that happen with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson?  Let me ask that another way…did that happen ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL across the country with Al and Jesse?

NOPE.

To get into why that is, needs to be addressed in a different post.

We’re talking about Hill and her White friends.  How come she doesn’t have Black support?

Her husband had Black support.

Black people luuuuuuuuuuved them some Bill Clinton.

But we don’t anymore.

Because he’s not the same guy.  Well, he IS the same guy, he was just very good at hiding the other side of himself.

As was his wife, Hillary, who has a reputation of leaving chaos in her wake, with no care or concern, as long as it beneifits her.

Gee, that sorta reminds me of the British and colonization around the world…

So, to Hill, arm in arm with her hard working White friends, I say this:

You go girl, you go…

Clinton as Supreme Court Justice?!

“That depends on what your definition of is is.”- Bill Clinton

Lest we forget one of the most impactful legal statements of our time (right next to “If it doesn’t fit, you must aquit”).

Who could forget Bill Clinton and Ken Starr battling each other over the Monica Lewinsky flap back in the day?  That’s when we all learned that Bill was a skilled lawyer…but Supreme Court Justice?!  WOW…

As Dave Neiwart points out over at FDL, the results for Hillary in North Carolina and Indiana were less than she needed, and may have destroyed her chances with the superdelegates. Her speech sounded suspiciously like a concession speech. Now anyone counting Hillary out until she formally says she’s out is taking a big chance, this is the energizer bunny of candidates. But let’s assume she will decide the gig’s up and to throw in the towel and turn our eyes forward.

Obama has his work cut out for him. The possibility that a lot of Hillary’s white working class base could turn to McCain or stay home should be a real worry for him. There’s been a great deal of bitterness and anger on both sides of the fight. And, to be crass and point out the unpalatable truth, there isn’t a lot in it for Hillary to back Obama in a more than pro-forma “going through the motions” fashion. If he loses, she’s the presumptive nominee in 4 years, after all. If he wins, she probably has to wait 8 years, and she’s not getting any younger. If she really wants to be president, well, Obama’s still in the way. Now I’m not saying she won’t help Obama even if such thoughts are going through her mind, no doubt she understands what another 4 years of a Republican presidency would mean. Still, there’s help, and there’s going all out. And there’s a lot of space between the two.

So if I’m Obama; if I’m one of Obama’s advisors, no matter how much I may share the view of some associated with the campaign about Hillary, I’d be thinking real hard right now about what it’s going to take to bring her and Bill on board in a big way, so that they do everything possible to really deliver the votes of their supporters.

For Bill, probably a seat on the Supremes if the opportunity comes up (and it will, if Obama is elected.) For Hillary? Probably Senate Majority leader–it’s not like Harry Reid really likes the job anyway.

For our hopes of there being a Democratic President taking office in 2009 I trust that similar thoughts are going through Obama’s mind. Because he’s going to need all the help he can get.

The Black vote: rejecting Bill & Hill Clinton for good

Read the writing on the wall, folks…

From Andrew Sullivan tonight:

Black Voters Did It

Here’s what now seems obvious: African-American voters killed the Clinton candidacy. It is a fitting end to the Clintons’ campaign and an almost Shakespearean coda to their career. The Clintons were exposed in their long-running exploitation and reliance on minority votes. No group was more loyal to them than African-Americans; and in the end, like everyone else, African-Americans realized that the Clintons are frauds, disloyal to the core, cynical to their finger-tips, and finally, finally, returned the favor. A reader writes: Read more »

The growing perception of Hillary, Obama and racism

By Jonathan Weisman and Matthew Mosk
Washington Post Staff Writers
Saturday, April 26, 2008; A01

The protracted and increasingly acrimonious fight for the Democratic presidential nomination is unnerving core constituencies — African Americans and wealthy liberals — who are becoming convinced that the party could suffer irreversible harm if Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton maintains her sharp line of attack against Sen. Barack Obama. Read more »

Bill Clinton Can Kiss My Black Ass

I found this at The Angry Black Woman.  She couldn’t have put it better.  In light of Bill’s recent dive headlong into racial politics, I think it’s quite appropriate.  Peace- Sable

Usually I try to craft these well reasoned posts complete with tons of links and back up data just so I can be assured that my audience is getting a complete picture. Today is not the day for that kind of post because I’m really just too pissed off by politics and politicians for words. See, when a former President that benefited from a good 90% of black voters turning out for him has the nerve to say some jacked up racist shit in South Carolina about his wife’s opponent and then tries to spin that shit into gold in advance of today’s primary? I’m about done with politics and proof, and even attempting to talk about this election cycle without profanity. This idea that Obama is the usurper and somehow it’s wrong for his supporters to recognize racism when it spews out of an elected official’s mouth is wearing me out. So all I really have to say to the Mr. Clinton at this point is a resounding FUCK YOU. For feeding into the same racism you claim to have opposed when it suits you, because you’re thinking it’s worth it if it can advance your cause even a little bit. Fuck you for making me ashamed to have voted for you in the 90’s. Fuck you for jumping all over Jeremiah Wright as though you weren’t the same one that invited him to the White House after the Monica Lewinsky story broke. Fuck you for killing my hopes of an election that would be run with the racism only coming from outside the party. Fuck you for trying to frame things as though black voters owe you a damned thing for doing the job you were elected to do. I’m pissed. I’m tired. And I’m not going to pretend for even a second that this shit is acceptable.

ETA: He doesn’t seem to understand what giving a radio interview actually means in terms of deniability after the fact. Any second now he’s going to claim it wasn’t him that was being interviewed, and I’ll succumb to the urge to just start laughing hysterically about the state of the Democratic Party.
